Lahore High Court Grants Partial Relief to Meesha Shafi in Ali Zafar Defamation Case

The Lahore High Court has granted significant relief to singer Meesha Shafi in her ongoing legal battle with Ali Zafar by suspending a Rs50 million damages order issued by a sessions court.

The case was heard by Justice Ahmed Nadeem Arshad, who ordered a temporary suspension of the compensation payment. However, the court directed Meesha Shafi to deposit half of the amount with the court, while providing a surety bond for the remaining half.

Meesha Shafi Challenges Court Decision in Ali Zafar Defamation Case

During the proceedings, the court also issued a notice to Ali Zafar, seeking his response to Meesha Shafi’s appeal. At the same time, the court rejected her request to completely suspend the trial court’s verdict.

Importantly, the court maintained a key portion of the original judgment, which restrains Meesha Shafi from repeating allegations of sexual harassment against Ali Zafar. The court remarked that such allegations cannot be allowed to be made freely without legal consideration, and therefore, this part of the decision would remain in effect.

It is worth noting that the sessions court in Lahore had earlier ruled in favor of Ali Zafar in a defamation case, ordering Meesha Shafi to pay Rs50 million in damages. Additionally, Ali Zafar has filed a separate defamation claim worth Rs10 billion against her.

This latest development marks a partial legal reprieve for Meesha Shafi, while the broader case continues to move forward in the courts.
