Yasir Hussain Blames Indian Market Influence for Decline in Pakistani Dramas

Pakistani actor, director, and host Yasir Hussain has stirred debate by attributing the decline in the quality of Pakistani dramas to the influence of the Indian market.
Speaking in a recent television interview, Yasir Hussain openly discussed what he believes is a noticeable drop in storytelling standards within Pakistan’s drama industry. According to him, one of the key differences between Pakistani and Indian dramas lies in the audience preferences, which ultimately shape the content being produced.
He claimed that while Pakistani viewers are generally more selective and appreciative of meaningful storytelling, a large portion of Indian audiences tend to consume lower-quality or “cringe” content. Hussain argued that when Pakistani dramas gained popularity in India, producers and writers began tailoring their content to suit that broader market.
“In the past, Pakistani dramas were known for their strong scripts, depth, and realism,” he said. “But when they started gaining viewership in India, instead of maintaining our own standards, we began adjusting our content to match their preferences.”
He added that Indian viewers were originally drawn to Pakistani dramas because of their quality and uniqueness. However, instead of elevating audience expectations, local creators shifted their approach, which led to a gradual decline in quality.

Hussain’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions on social media. Some users agree with his perspective, believing that commercial pressures and international markets have diluted the originality of Pakistani dramas. Others, however, disagree, arguing that multiple factors—such as production budgets, changing trends, and audience behavior within Pakistan itself—also play a role.
The debate highlights ongoing concerns about the future direction of Pakistan’s entertainment industry and the balance between artistic integrity and commercial success.
