The Pakistan Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert amidst the forecast of a severe heat wave Alert.

According to official sources, intense heat wave Alert and high temperatures are expected to persist in Punjab until June 13. The temperature is being recorded approximately 7 degrees Celsius above normal. Major districts including Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sargodha, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Sahiwal are experiencing extreme heat. The southern districts of Punjab are expected to see even more intense heat waves.

On the previous day, Dera Ghazi Khan and Naur Pur Thal recorded the highest temperature at 49°C, while Bhakkar, Bahawalnagar, Kot Addu, Mandi Bahauddin, and other regions saw temperatures around 47°C.

Relief Commissioner Punjab, Nabeel Javed, has directed all commissioners and deputy commissioners to stay alert. Measures such as providing cold water at public places, bus stations, markets, ensuring access to clean water in Cholistan districts, and setting up heatwave counters in all hospitals have been implemented.

According to DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia, awareness campaigns about heatwave safety are being disseminated through media, and necessary medications are being supplied.

He advised citizens to take special care of children, the elderly, and the sick, avoid strenuous activities and exercise in the intense sunlight, wear light-colored cotton clothing, and refrain from unnecessary outdoor activities.
