Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has announced that the Government of Pakistan is working to bring Pakistani dramas and films to Netflix and other global streaming platforms, aiming to give local content greater international exposure.
The announcement came after social media users once again raised concerns about the limited availability of Pakistani entertainment content on major streaming services such as Netflix. Responding to the discussion, Ahsan Iqbal said the government recognizes the global popularity of Pakistani dramas and films and is taking steps to secure fair representation for the country’s entertainment industry.
In a statement shared on social media, the minister said Pakistani productions have earned widespread appreciation for their storytelling, talented actors, and high-quality content. He added that the creative and cultural industries are an important part of Pakistan’s export strategy under the Uraan Pakistan initiative.

Ahsan Iqbal stated that platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video offer valuable opportunities to showcase Pakistani content to international audiences. However, he claimed that regional political issues have limited the presence of Pakistani productions on these global platforms in recent years.
According to the minister, the government is currently engaging with Netflix and other international streaming companies to create sustainable partnerships that will help Pakistani filmmakers, producers, writers, and actors reach viewers worldwide. These discussions aim to increase the visibility of Pakistani entertainment while opening new business opportunities for the country’s creative sector.
In addition to working with international platforms, Ahsan Iqbal revealed that Pakistan is also exploring the development of its own independent OTT (Over-the-Top) streaming platform. The proposed platform would provide a dedicated space for Pakistani films, dramas, documentaries, and digital content while promoting local talent globally.
Industry experts believe that expanding the international reach of Pakistani entertainment could boost exports, attract foreign investment, create employment opportunities, and strengthen Pakistan’s cultural presence worldwide.
If successful, these initiatives could mark a major step forward for Pakistan’s entertainment industry, giving local creators access to global audiences and helping Pakistani stories gain the international recognition they deserve.
