In a shocking and unsettling development, Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa has received a death threat from a religious leader, reportedly in reaction to a recent judicial ruling.
The police have acted swiftly, registering a case against Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) Deputy Amir Pir Zaheerul Hasan Shah at Qila Gujjar Singh police station. Shah is now facing serious charges under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), including inciting religious hatred, disturbing public peace, threatening the judiciary, and interfering with official duties.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Shah made inflammatory comments during a protest outside the Lahore Press Club. He not only incited the public against the judiciary but also shockingly offered a reward of Rs10 million for anyone who would kill the Chief Justice.
This threat has prompted a strong response from the federal government. Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, speaking at a press conference, condemned the provocative and baseless campaign against Chief Justice Isa. He emphasized that using religion to incite chaos and violence is unacceptable and politically motivated.
Asif reminded everyone that belief in the finality of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) is a fundamental aspect of Islam, and noted that the Supreme Court has already addressed related issues. He accused certain factions of targeting Qazi Faez Isa in an attempt to silence a principled and honest voice within the judiciary.
The federal government has vowed to take stringent action against those responsible, underscoring the importance of maintaining peace and upholding the rule of law in the face of such threats.
