Legendary actor Shahid recently expressed concerns about the Punjab government’s film grant, urging that the money should not be misused. He warned that it would be a shame if producers took the grant of 25 million rupees and presented a film worth only 5 million rupees. Shahid shared his thoughts during a special interview with Jang Digital in Karachi, where he was accompanied by presidential award-winning actor Mustafa Qureshi and Arts Council President Ahmad Shah.

Shahid praised Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for allocating millions of rupees in funds to revive the film industry. However, he emphasized that producers who receive the funds should be mindful of their responsibility to restore the industry and use the money properly. He also pointed out that other deserving individuals, like Mustafa Qureshi, should also receive such support from the government.
In response to a question, Shahid recalled that during Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s era, cinema houses were built, and quality films were made under the National Film Development Corporation (NEFD). He stated that the film industry was thriving during Bhutto’s time.
Shahid also expressed his desire for the current government to officially recognize the film industry and work towards its revival. He noted that there are very few cinema houses left in the country, and the lack of places to screen films is a major challenge.
Shahid also spoke proudly of his son, Kamran Shahid, stating that he is happy with his son’s success and that even today, millions of people still recognize him.
