The arrival of Zubeen Garg’s body in India turned into an emotional moment as thousands of people gathered to pay their final respects. Even police officers on duty were seen breaking down in tears, highlighting the deep impact of the singer’s untimely death.

According to Indian media reports, Zubeen Garg’s body was flown from Singapore to Guwahati Airport, where it was received by long queues of mourners. The government of Assam had already declared a three-day state mourning, reflecting the legendary singer’s importance in the region.

Second Post-Mortem and Investigation

Reports say a second post-mortem was conducted after his body reached India, as authorities suspected something unusual about his death. Police have also intensified their investigation to uncover the truth behind the tragedy.

Funeral Plans

In line with Zubeen Garg’s last wishes, his burial will take place near a river in his hometown. The government has also allocated six acres of land to build a memorial in his honor.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the funeral would be simple and private, attended only by family, close relatives, and friends. The procession will have just one ambulance carrying the body, followed by a single bus for his loved ones.

Schools and Offices Closed

The Assam government has ordered that all schools, colleges, and government offices remain closed on September 23, the day of his last rites. His funeral will be performed on the outskirts of Guwahati, with thousands expected to attend.

A Voice That Touched Millions

Born in Assam, Zubeen Garg rose to fame across India for his versatile singing in Assamese, Bengali, and Hindi films. He became a household name after performing the hit song “Ya Ali” in the 2006 Bollywood film Gangster, starring Emraan Hashmi and Kangana Ranaut.

He also delivered popular Bengali songs such as “Chokher Jole,” “Pyaare Pyaare,” and “Subha Mangalam.” His death on September 19 in Singapore during a scuba diving accident shocked fans worldwide, as he had been scheduled to perform in two concerts there on September 20 and 21.

As his body returned home, the overwhelming public response showed that Zubeen Garg was not just a singer but a cultural icon whose music will live on for generations.
