‘Sardar Ji 3’ Breaks Records for Popularity in Pakistan but Faces Resistance in India

The Punjabi film “Sardar Ji 3,” starring Hania Amir from Pakistan and renowned Indian singer-actor Daljit Dosanjh, has achieved extraordinary success in Pakistan and globally. Released internationally on June 27, the film quickly garnered attention, with over 11 crore Indian Rupees earned in just two days, all of which came from outside India. The film’s remarkable reception, especially with packed cinemas across Pakistan, clearly reflects its popularity and widespread appeal.

However, the film’s journey has not been smooth in India. Due to strong opposition from Hindu radical groups, “Sardar Ji 3” was banned from release in India, and even its trailer was blocked on YouTube. The controversy primarily revolves around political tensions between India and Pakistan, with some groups protesting the film’s content, accusing it of fueling propaganda.

Despite the ban, the film achieved notable success internationally, and the Pakistani audience embraced it wholeheartedly. Hania Amir’s captivating performance contributed significantly to its popularity, drawing large crowds to cinemas.

Supporting Daljit Dosanjh amid the controversy, veteran Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah publicly expressed his solidarity. In a social media message, he stated, “I stand with Daljit. Some hooligans want to sever the links between the people of Pakistan and India, but no one can stop me from meeting my loved ones and friends in Pakistan.” Shah criticized the BJP for allegedly seeking opportunities to target Daljit, highlighting the political motives behind the opposition.

Indian Fans Outraged Over Actor’s Derogatory Remarks Against Hania Aamir

Daljit Dosanjh, in an interview with BBC Asian Network, clarified that the film’s shooting was completed in February 2025, during a period of relative peace before the escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan. He emphasized that he had no intention of working in Bollywood and expressed his love for music, stating that he can create music independently without anyone’s interference.

Meanwhile, the Indian Film Workers Union (FWICE) has demanded Daljit Dosanjh be removed from the upcoming film “Border 2” and requested the defense minister to cancel shooting permissions at the National Defense Academy, citing political concerns.

Despite the controversy, Daljit Dosanjh shared his happiness over the film’s international commercial success, posting videos and comments from fans worldwide on Instagram. He remains focused on the global audience’s love, sidelining the blocking and protests, and continues to celebrate the film’s achievements across borders, highlighting its universal appeal despite political discord.
