Maya Khan Speaks Out on Sensationalism in Ramadan Transmissions

Popular Pakistani host and actress Maya Khan has openly shared her thoughts about the growing sensationalism in Ramadan television transmissions. Speaking during a recent appearance on Tabish Hashmi’s Ramadan special show “Hansna Mana Hai,” she discussed why many Ramadan programs are becoming more dramatic and controversial.

Maya Khan explained that the main reason behind this trend is the intense competition for ratings and views. According to her, television channels are now investing large budgets to create attention-grabbing moments that can quickly go viral and generate headlines. She said that a host is usually known for professionalism, but the current media environment encourages content that attracts instant public attention.

She also pointed out that many actors are now hosting Ramadan shows. While this is not necessarily a bad thing, she believes that the focus should remain on quality and respectful content during the holy month. Maya added that actors in Pakistan often do not receive fair compensation for their work. In many cases, they are not paid royalties when their dramas are replayed. Because of this, some artists feel pressured to accept projects that focus more on sensational content rather than meaningful programming.

During the conversation, Maya Khan also commented on the viral “Astaghfar” clip from actress Veena Malik’s old Ramadan show. She said it is unfair to blame only one person for such moments. According to her, producers and production teams also share responsibility for what goes on air. Maya emphasized that mistakes can happen, but media creators should learn from them and aim for more respectful and thoughtful Ramadan content in the future.
