Casey Donegan, who was crowned Miss America 2025 on September 7 in Orlando, Florida, has faced unexpected backlash on social media not for her win, but for her makeup look.
Soon after her victory, users began trolling her appearance, with many claiming her makeup looked too heavy and harsh under the stage lights. Some even suggested that the runner-up, Sadie Sharemyer of Texas, should have won the crown instead.
Responding to the criticism, Donegan said she would not let negative comments affect her. “After any big event, people share opinions and that’s natural. Everyone has a right to their view, but I am surrounded by love and support, and that’s what matters most,” she said.
The 25-year-old model also shared her inspiring journey. Coming from a low-income family, she faced bullying during childhood, while her mother suffered a stroke when Casey was just nine years old. “My background shows that tough circumstances do not define your future,” she stated proudly.
As the new Miss America, Donegan received a $50,000 tuition scholarship, along with an additional $3,000 award for her performance in the preliminary talent round.
She further added, “I didn’t win wearing a $10,000 dress. My talent outfit was sponsored, and parts of my makeup were bought from regular stores. Success is not about money or background it’s about hard work and self-confidence.”
Despite the online trolling, Donegan’s story of resilience and determination has won admiration from supporters who see her as a role model for young women striving to rise above challenges.
