Laila Wasti Thanks Her Bone Marrow Donor Years After Cancer Battle

Pakistani actress Laila Wasti has once again expressed heartfelt gratitude to the German man who donated bone marrow to her during her fight with blood cancer, recalling her journey during a live TV program.

Laila Wasti appeared recently on Samaa TV’s morning show alongside actress Angeline Malik, where both openly discussed their experiences with cancer.

Sharing her story, Laila revealed that in 2008, just a day before her diagnosis, she felt completely healthy and showed no signs of illness. While in the United States, she suddenly collapsed and was rushed to a local community hospital, where doctors informed her that she had cancer but could not treat her.

She was then airlifted to Johns Hopkins Hospital, one of the world’s leading cancer treatment centers. There, she was diagnosed with advanced blood cancer.

Laila recalled signing her own medical consent papers, acknowledging that if something happened to her during treatment, the hospital would not be held responsible. “Luckily, nothing happened,” she said with gratitude.

The actress admitted that during chemotherapy and surgeries, she sometimes felt exhausted and even hopeless. But her perspective changed when she saw a child without a leg. “I immediately thanked God and asked for forgiveness for my complaints,” she said.

She stressed that not once did she believe she was going to die, as her faith in God remained strong throughout her treatment.

Laila Wasti considers herself fortunate to have found multiple bone marrow donors. While many patients wait years for a suitable match, she had 19 potential donors, all willing to help. Unfortunately, none of her family members were a match, but a German man ultimately donated the life-saving bone marrow.

On the live program, Laila became emotional as she once again thanked the donor, addressing him directly as her “brother” and acknowledging the priceless gift he gave her.

Her story stands as an inspiring reminder of hope, resilience, and the importance of global bone marrow donation networks that save lives every day.
