Pakistani actor Faisal Quraishi, currently receiving praise for his powerful performance in the drama Baharopia, recently responded to co-star Nadia Afghan’s critique of his English dialogue delivery in the show.
In Baharopia, Quraishi plays a complex character with multiple personality disorder, adopting different speech patterns for each persona. Afghan had criticized his use of the phrase “Gutcha!” (a variation of “Gotcha”), calling it “non-standard English.”
Clapping back in a viral video with director Shakeel Khan, Faisal Quraishi explained: “Certain American circles pronounce ‘Gotcha’ as ‘Gottcha’ my character Kabir mimics a foreign friend’s accent intentionally.” Khan backed his lead actor, clarifying that every linguistic quirk was deliberately crafted to reflect the psychological nuances of the role.

The internet largely sided with Faisal Quraishi, with fans applauding his commitment to authenticity. “If Nadia wants textbook English, she should watch BBC News, not layered psychological dramas,” tweeted one supporter.
This debate highlights Pakistan’s evolving drama landscape where bold character choices spark conversations about artistic freedom versus traditional expectations.
