Deepika Kakar’s Conversion to Islam Was a Personal Decision, Says Co-Star

Indian television actress Deepika Kakar’s decision to embrace Islam was a personal choice and was not made simply because of her marriage to actor Shoaib Ibrahim, according to her co-star Jayati Bhatia.

In a recent interview, Jayati Bhatia reportedly revealed that Deepika was going through a difficult phase in her life when she visited Ajmer Sharif, a revered Sufi shrine in India. According to Jayati, the visit gave Deepika a sense of peace and emotional strength during that challenging period.

Jayati said Deepika later made the decision to embrace Islam of her own choice. She reportedly emphasized that Deepika herself had told her that her decision was personal and independent of her marriage.

The senior actress also rejected the perception that Deepika converted because of pressure from her husband or simply adopted Shoaib Ibrahim’s religion after their marriage. According to Jayati, the couple have consistently supported each other and respected one another’s choices.

Deepika Kakar and Shoaib Ibrahim married in 2018 and have a son, Ruhaan. Their relationship has remained in the public spotlight, with both actors frequently sharing aspects of their family life with fans.

Jayati also spoke about the couple’s support for each other during difficult times. She said Shoaib stood by Deepika after her cancer diagnosis in 2025, while Deepika has also supported Shoaib and his family throughout their years together.

The comments have renewed discussion around Deepika’s religious journey, particularly the long-standing speculation that her decision was directly connected to her marriage.

According to her co-star’s account, however, Deepika viewed the decision as a deeply personal one based on her own experiences and beliefs.
